Q&A
1. In the discussion section, I will need to make a recommendation for some sort of action and/or line of continued inquiry. What will this recommendation be?
I will give primary and secondary recommendations. The reason for this is that there are recommendations that the government can manage to postpone for the future. However, primary recommendations are those that are urgent and require immediate action. Therefore, the primary recommendation will be to create a rule, which enforces both private and public sectors to employ Black graduates. Currently, the government are providing subsidies to companies that employ some of the lucky graduates; however, the problem with this structure is that once the subsidy period is complete, companies do not continue to employ Black individuals. In addition, I will recommend that the government must create monitoring and effective methods with which they will monitor companies and their compliance levels, or lack thereof.
For example: if the government enforce a rule on companies to employ graduates, with the financial subsidiary in place, and ensure that those graduates are absorbed for at least three years after the first year, then all Blacks who have obtained higher education would be eligible to be employable for the rest of their lives. Therefore, empowering the Black child and ensuring that the economic futures of all South African Citizens are secured and equalised.
2. How will I draw from the literature review section to set up my recommendation for the audience?
The literature review will provide information that has already been analysed extensively by its original authors. Therefore, in order to explain my recommendations, I will draw recommendations that are presented in the literature review and explain why they are important to the audience. In addition, in my recommendations, I will be able to align my own views or suggestions to the information that is presented in the literature review.
For example: in recommending a monitoring method that the government can use, I will base this on the information that other researchers or authors have previously reported. Therefore, providing confidence in the credibility of my own recommendations.
3. What appeals (to logos, ethos, pathos) will be most useful in this section?
All three appeals could be useful for this section because: Logos will appeal to the government from a statistical point of view; ethos will appeal to them from a Constitutional point of view since the Republic is governed by the Constitution; and pathos will appeal to them from a human perspective, reminding them how the Black graduate in South Africa is still disadvantaged and not taken as priority in the employment field.
4. Examples of appeals I think might be used and why I think they are appropriate given the identified audience.
The appeal to logos will be mostly influential for the recommendation section of this research. The intended audience are governmental bodies.
Since the audience that is aimed to receive this report are members of the government, numbers will be more convincing to them. Therefore, I will present data and/or statistics in accordance to the research that I conducted and that which is presented in the literature section.
